Denali Capital President Scott Husband has over 30 years of experience as an investment professional guiding individuals, corporations, and non-profits to make positive investment decisions.

Scott began his career in 1976. In early 1977, Scott was one of 4 individuals that brought to Fairbanks it's first national brokerage firm. During the years 1980-1984, Scott lived in Dallas, Texas where he worked in a small New York firm specializing in natural resource equities. In April 1984, Scott and his family returned to Alaska to re-join the office he helped open. Over the past 20 years Scott has specialized in managing portfolios desiring risk adverse positioning. Scott has primarily managed corporations, non-profits, and high net-worth households. Scott’s success qualified him for Morgan Stanley’s Presidents Club for 12 years as well as the title of Senior VP of Investments. Scott was consistently ranked in the top 100 of 12,000 fixed income brokers.

Scott Graduated from San Jose State in 1976 after attending Santa Clara University. Scott holds the series 65 certification. Scott has been a resident of Fairbanks since the mid 1970’s, granting him an understanding of Alaska’s unique economy and lifestyles.

Heather Husband photoHeather Husband

Heather Husband joined Denali Capital in 2003. She was born and raised in Fairbanks, graduated from Monroe High School in 1995 and the University of Cincinnati in 2000.

Heather established herself as a successful commercial property manager in Washington, D.C. for three years before being offered a significant promotion in commercial real estate that would require her to move to Louisville, Kentucky. She instead decided to return with her experience and skills to Fairbanks, to join her father at Denali Capital.

Mark Simpson photoMark G. Simpson

Mark joined Denali Capital Management in 2006. While providing investment advice for our clients, his responsibilities include Business Development and Allocation Strategy. Working with Scott, he will develop, review, and exploit emerging investment opportunities for our clients.

Mark brings 16 years of financial services experience to the firm, including over 10 years with the Fairbanks office of Morgan Stanley managing assets for businesses, households and organizations throughout Alaska. His goal-oriented asset allocation approach to investing is perfectly consistent with the Denali Capital philosophy.

Mark received his education in Economics and Business through Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Alaska. He has obtained the Series 7, 63, and 65 certifications. A 29-year Alaskan, Mark resides with his family in Ester, where he responds as a lieutenant with the Ester Volunteer Fire Department.

Jim Kelly photoJim Kelly

Jim Kelly is a 5th generation Alaskan born and raised in Fairbanks. He enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family. Jim graduated from Monroe Catholic High School, and then he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Montana State University.

Jim has spent time abroad, one year in Brazil and a college semester in Spain. Jim also completed a summer internship in Washington, D.C. with the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. In addition to his college studies, Jim completed two consecutive tax-season internships with PriceWaterhouseCooper’s Venture Capital Division in San Jose, CA where he worked his way from intern to senior associate, working closely with senior partners and managers. Upon completing his internships, Jim returned to Fairbanks to work for State Farm Insurance Agency. Jim has obtained his series 6, 63 and 65 security certifications.

Most recently Jim held a lending position at Denali State Bank as a commercial loan officer. Jim worked closely with the bank’s senior officers and Board of Directors learning many facets of commercial lending while earning the trust of the bank’s clients. In 2006 Jim helped form the Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary Club and in 2007, he was elected President. The Club meets Tuesday evenings at 5:30 at Zach's Restaurant.

In 2006, Jim bought a new home off Chena Hot Springs Road and in 2007 he and Katherine Rose were married and began their life together. They enjoy flying, boating, snow machining, and spending time at their family cabins. Jim and Katherine plan to live and raise their family here in Fairbanks.

Mike Bartch photoMike Bartch

Mike came to Fairbanks in 1991 when his Dad was stationed on Ft. Wainwright. He graduated from Monroe High School and briefly left Alaska to attend Central Texas College. Mike returned to Fairbanks and graduated from the University of Alaska. Mike holds the series 65 certification.
 
Before joining Denali Capital, Mike was a lender and special credits manager for local financial institutions and has served as a mentor for local nonprofit assistance programs. Mike also owns and co-owns several small businesses in Fairbanks.
 
Mike has lived in Fairbanks for 16 years. Along with his wife and daughter, he has made Fairbanks his permanent home.
